A 20" diameter flexible LNG composite hose system
CONSTRUCTION
The 20" diameter LNG hose is constructed with a stainless steel outer wire which provided hoop strength and the ability of five times MAWP. The stainless steel inner wire offers structural stability and with the configuration of both wires establishes the flexible geometry of the hose body and provides compressive sealing force to the film layers.
The especially designed and manufactured raw materials are selected for axial hose strength, resistance to cryogenic temperatures and the effects of exposure to the marine atmosphere.
The materials provide both excellent yield strength and service life that exceed requirements and meet low flammability standards.
Special film layers are embedded in the hose wall that resist permeation and add to the axial strength of the hose.
Designed to withstand extreme internal pressures, the stainless steel flanged end fittings are secured to prevent movement and with a special propriety feature that provides enhance security under increased axial loading conditions.
The LNG hose is lagged with polypropylene rope to resist abrasion and aid the already excellent thermal insulation values of the hose.
HOSE TESTING PROGRAM
Testing was developed jointly by IMPaC Offshore Engineering and Germanischer Lloyd in co-operation with ExxonMobil and U.S.Hose (formerly Senior Flexonics).
Dynamic tests verified bending and torsional capabilities under simulated operational conditions over a two year service life.
Static tests demonstrated that the hose is suitable for the required operational pressures, temperatures and static beding tests. These include burst testing in accordance with The IMO Gas Tanker Code
A bending test simulated flexural and axial loading at the bottom of the "U" shaped hose when installed in the loading system with loading also simulated at the top vertical position of the hose string.
A final laboratory analysis revealed no signs of wear with sampling of the materials indicated no leakages in service or structual failure even after fatique testing.
RESULTS
Certification by Germanischer Lloyd providing the safe transfer of LNG between floating LNG facilities, shuttle tankers and terminals in a reliable and cost competitive alternative to conventional loading systems.
